Ahh, the Joys of Inebriation… August 22, 2008

A few things you should know before reading this post:

  • Yes, I’m drunk inebriated at the moment.  I’m still a stickler for typing/spelling.
  • I don’t get like this very often, so enjoy while you can.
  • I’ve never in the history of blogging erased a post, so it’s not likely to happen today, either.  :-P

I think it’s one of the great joys in life, being able to feel like your neck’s not able to properly balance the rest of your head without causing injury to yourself.  One of my fraternity brothers once told me that you KNOW you’re drunk if you run your fingers through your hair and it feels ENTIRELY too good.  Upon doing this, I know I’m not drunk, but perhaps speaking in caps WAY TOO MUCH is another sign.  The world may never know… :)

I’m not a big drinker.  In the last year, you can literally use one hand to count the number of times I’ve even been drunk inebriated.  Part of the reason for this is that I like to go to karaoke bars, and I point blank REFUSE to sing if I feel even the slightest touch of inebriation.  Many people can’t sing without having a decent amount of alcohol “liquid courage” in them; I’m opposite, in that I know what alcohol does to your vocal cords, and won’t risk sounding bad by drinking before performing.  Karaoke bars that insist on X amount of minimum drinks before performance are my enemy.

Another reason is that I simply don’t feel the need to drink much.  While I’m sure some of my fraternity brothers are shaking their heads in disgust, I merely need to point my bar bill and smirk.  I’ve always been a lightweight in terms of how quickly I feel the effects of alcohol, and instead of feeling the need to play “catch up” with guys who often double my own weight and dectuple my drinking experience, I just write myself off as a cheap date who doesn’t need to shell out much money to feel a good buzz for the night.  Why would I want to put my wallet, as well as my liver, in jeopardy for the sake of being able to claim I can drink this guy or that guy under the table? :-P

One thing I can claim with great pride is that, while inebriated, I’ve never had a conversation or patch of time that I couldn’t remember.  This differs greatly from some of the experiences some of my fraternity brothers have had.  One gentleman, for instance, mistook the door to another brother’s room for a bathroom stall, and proceeded to urinate on it before realizing his error.  As for another, I can’t claim to know quite what happened to him the night before; all I know is I will never forget finding him face-down in the hallway the morning after a particularly ‘boisterous’ night, his shorts around his ankles.

To be fair, his briefs were up and covering his naughty bits, but still… the visual was pretty unforgettable.

Fortunately (or not, depending on your philosophy, I suppose), there will be no such hijinks tonight, aside from random thoughts of varying amusing-ness.  If you’ve enjoyed my rambling, please feel free to comment.

Otherwise, please don’t ever play this message to me. ;-)

It’s me again, Mr. Once-a-Month… ;)

So, the holidays were hectic, as always (which is a bit disturbing when you consider that I’m single, and far away from family… you’d think those would be the cause of the extra hectic-ness).  Contrary to popular belief, I did get pictures of the Turkey Day festivities, so go check them out despite their somewhat outdatedness.  I’ve always had a high opinion of my cooking, so I’m proud to say that things turned out relatively well.

I also got to show off my cooking skillz several times this season by making lasagna (which is my SIGNATURE dish… been makin’ it for years and am cocky as all get-out about how good I think it is).  I think I made five pans in the last few weeks (one of which is in the refrigerator, awaiting my stomach).  All I know is that many people enjoyed it.

Christmas Day itself was pretty nice.  I spent it with some friends, to whose house I’d brought the kittens for the weekend (that was an adventure!  Sirius and Alastor are used to having just each other, and they go from that to three more cats and two [cat-friendly] dogs.  I don’t think I’ve seen them so freaked).  I also received a nice package from my family, which included my mom’s and grandma’s tamales.  Bad for the body, but my body and soul BOTH thank them for overnighting them… :)

I did not receive the Firefly show set for Christmas, but I did purchase Serenity (which I will review at some point soon) with a gift card I received.  I also got a gift card to IKEA from my friends, which was a pleasant surprise.  Now I just need to get up there…

Anyways, that’s enough for now.  I’ll blog soon again about New Years.  I have a resolution in mind that may interest some of you, but that’s all I’ll say for now.  Talk soon! ;)

Turkey Day for the Serials Guybrarian November 23, 2005

I have decided to embark upon a perilous quest, one that will test my resolve, my intellect, and my capability.

I am going to cook the turkey this year.

Horror stories abound for those who cook the turkey for their first time, and I’ve heard many of these.  Add to them the fact that I’m: 1. young; 2. single; and 3. a guy, and we have a horror-comedy of potentially gi-normous proportions waiting to be spun.

The cooking itself will not commence until Sunday (I’m spending Thanxgiving Day with some friends), but I have resolved to have a turkey dinner of my own this weekend.

To add to the level of tragicomedy that this endeavor will undoubtedly espouse, I am taking intermittent pictures and putting them up on my Saga page.  Please feel free to write in with advice, commiseration, heartless jibes, or alternative approaches I might try next year.

Until then, enjoy the saga as it unfolds… :)
